Justine Nameere Declared Winner of Masaka City Woman MP Seat Following Court-Ordered Vote Recount

In a surprising turn of events, National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Justine Nameere has been declared the winner of the Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament position following a court-ordered vote recount.

The recount, ordered by Masaka Chief Magistrate Abert Asiimwe, was prompted by Nameere’s election petition challenging the initial results from the January 15, 2026, general election. Originally, the Electoral Commission declared National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Rose Nalubowa the victor with 25,443 votes to Nameere’s 20,343 (with minor variations reported across sources as 20,324 in some tallies).

Nameere, a former media personality, Special Senior Presidential Advisor on Greater Masaka Affairs, and daughter of ex-Defence Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, alleged irregularities including omitted results from several polling stations.

As of January 31, 2026, the court-ordered recount in the Masaka City Woman MP election has concluded with Justine Nameere (NRM) declared the winner, overturning the initial Electoral Commission results that had Rose Nalubowa (NUP) ahead.
