CDF Honors Best Performing Military Officer with Shs 10 Million at 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary in Kabale

KABALE, Uganda.

The top performing military officer was honoured with a Shs 10 million cash award by the Chief of Defence Forces during the national 45th Tarehe Sita anniversary celebration in Kabale District on Friday.

The award was presented as part of events marking Tarehe Sita, an annual national commemoration that recognises the launch of Uganda’s liberation struggle ; the day the National Resistance Army (NRA), now the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), began armed operations on Feb. 6, 1981.

The day symbolises the founding of today’s UPDF and its partnership with Ugandans in safeguarding peace and stability.

The ceremony drew a high‑profile audience, including ICT and National Guidance Minister Chris Baryomunsi, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Security Minister Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and his wife, and the Chief Justice. Military officials and local leaders also attended the sessions.

The official masters of ceremonies were Col. Magezi and Maj. Tabalo Kiconco, who guided proceedings as troops, government officials and guests observed the commemorations.

Tarehe Sita is commemorated every Feb. 6 with national and regional events that highlight both the historical significance of the nation’s liberation struggle and the continuing role of the UPDF in promoting peace, unity and development throughout Uganda.
