Manchester United are closing in on their second major midfield signing of the summer, with Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans expected to complete his medical ahead of a move to Old Trafford.
The experienced Belgium international arrived in Manchester as the club moves quickly to finalize a deal that would strengthen manager Michael Carrick’s midfield options ahead of the new season.
Sources indicate that negotiations are at an advanced stage, with reports suggesting United have activated Tielemans’ £35 million release clause. The 29-year-old is expected to undergo routine medical tests before putting pen to paper on a long-term contract.
Tielemans would become United’s second midfield addition of the summer following the reported £50 million signing of Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos. The club had previously been close to completing a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson before that move collapsed late in the process.
