Sheebah Honored for Promoting Uganda’s Culture on the Global Stage

Ugandan singer Sheebah Karungi has been recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for her contribution to promoting the country’s cultural identity across Africa and beyond through her music and public influence

The award for Outstanding Artistry and Cultural Influence was presented on Aug. 5 by Ambassador Charles Ssentongo, Uganda’s Chief of Protocol, on behalf of Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Harunah Kyeyune Kasolo.

According to the ministry, the recognition celebrates Sheebah’s role in showcasing Uganda’s culture to international audiences and strengthening the country’s image through the creative arts.

Officials said her music and influence have helped raise Uganda’s profile beyond its borders while contributing to cultural exchange and greater appreciation of the country’s artistic talent.

In a statement shared on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the award recognizes Sheebah’s contribution to projecting Uganda’s cultural identity across Africa and the wider world.

The ministry added that culture remains an important component of Uganda’s foreign policy, helping to strengthen people-to-people connections while supporting tourism, trade, investment and broader economic diplomacy.

The recognition reflects the government’s growing emphasis on the creative industry as a tool for national branding and international engagement.

Over the years, Sheebah has established herself as one of Uganda’s most influential entertainers, building a career that has attracted audiences across East Africa and other international markets. Her performances, music and public profile have made her one of the country’s best-known cultural ambassadors.

The latest honor adds to a list of achievements earned throughout her career and highlights the increasing role artists play in advancing Uganda’s cultural and economic interests on the global stage.
