Kanungu Woman MP results challenged as Betty Kataba plans legal action
By Shariff Akankwasa.
Hon. Betty Kataba has rejected the results of the recent Woman Member of Parliament election in Kanungu District, citing alleged widespread malpractice that she says altered the final outcome.
Speaking to Hii5 Media reporter, Betty Kataba thanked the people of Kanungu for the overwhelming support shown during the campaign, singling out her family, campaign team and voters who cast their ballots in her favor. She said the officially declared results did not reflect the will of the people.
Kataba alleged that several irregularities occurred during the voting and tallying process, including cases of ballot stuffing reported in a number of sub-counties. She further claimed that some individuals who said they had been deployed to mobilize votes for President Yoweri Museveni instead diverted their efforts to support an independent candidate, Hon. Kinshaba.
“These actions significantly affected the integrity of the election,” Betty Kataba said, adding that her team is compiling evidence to substantiate the claims. She noted that numerous individuals have already expressed willingness to testify as witnesses.
Kataba said legal action will be taken at the appropriate time once the evidence-gathering process is complete. Despite the setback, she struck a defiant and optimistic tone, expressing confidence that the matter will ultimately be resolved in her favor.
“The end result will reflect justice and the true will of the people of Kanungu,” she said.
Election officials have not yet responded publicly to the allegations.
