NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, announced the incident on X, condemning the Museveni regime and calling for the immediate release of Mufumbiro. According to a statement posted by Bobi Wine on X, Mufumbiro was abducted by armed men in an incident described as a targeted attack. While specific details about the time and location of the abduction remain unclear, sources within the NUP indicate that Mufumbiro was taken by plain-clothed operatives, a tactic frequently associated with the government’s crackdown on opposition figures. The NUP has linked the abduction to a broader pattern of repression targeting its members, particularly as the country gears up for the 2026 general elections.
“Just learnt of the violent abduction of our brother, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro. Museveni and his criminal regime will eventually get what they’re looking for. #FREEUGANDA,” Bobi Wine posted on X, reflecting the growing frustration among opposition supporters.
Mufumbiro, a vocal critic of the Museveni government and a prominent figure in the NUP, has been a key advocate for political reform and a staunch supporter of Bobi Wine’s presidential ambitions.
