Ugandan singer Irene Namatovu has spoken about her experience raising her husband Geoffrey Lutaaya’s daughters from a previous relationship, saying embracing them as her own remains one of the most rewarding decisions she has made.
In a recent television interview, Namatovu said Lutaaya had two daughters before they began their relationship. Although she was not their biological mother, she chose to take an active role in raising them long before she had children of her own.
She said her decision was rooted in her commitment to her family, adding that accepting her husband’s children came naturally because she believed they deserved the same care and affection as any other child in the household.
According to Namatovu, the two daughters have since grown into successful adults, completed their education and now live in the United States. She said watching them thrive has given her a deep sense of pride and affirmed the effort she invested in raising them.
The singer explained that she was determined to ensure the girls never felt treated differently from her biological children. She said creating a united family was important to her and that she wanted every child in the home to feel equally valued.
Namatovu also revealed that her perspective was shaped by her own childhood experiences of being raised by a stepmother. She said that experience helped her understand the importance of showing love and fairness to children in blended families.
Reflecting on her journey, she said she believes the compassion she extended to her stepdaughters has brought blessings to her own family. She encouraged women raising children from blended families to embrace them with kindness rather than division.
Her remarks highlighted the realities faced by many blended families, where parenting often extends beyond biological ties. Namatovu said strong family relationships are built through love, responsibility and consistency, qualities she believes can leave a lasting impact on children’s lives regardless of their background.
