Alex Mukulu Fires at Alien Skin, Fans Fight Back
In the latest news today, veteran dramatist Alex Mukulu is back in the headlines after launching another fiery attack on one of Uganda’s most talked-about musicians, Alien Skin….
In an interview with Spark TV yesterday, Alex Mukulu dismissed the Sitya Danger star as “just a poet,” arguing that Ugandans must learn the difference between real musicians and entertainers who build their fame on controversy.

“A real musician cannot form gangs to attack others. That’s not music, that’s thuggery,” he said sharply. He pointed to greats like Philly Bongole Lutaaya, Elly Wamala, Fred Masagazi, and Christopher Kawalya, saying those legends only competed through melodies, not through fights or intimidation.
Alex Mukulu did not stop there. He also lashed out at Alien Skin and fellow artist Fik Gaza, accusing them of lowering the standards of the industry. “Alien Skin, Fik Gaza… aren’t singers. You can even see from their names. Why can’t they use their real names? Those boys are poets,” he scoffed.
His comments quickly sparked a storm online. Some fans applauded him for “telling the bitter truth” about today’s stars. Others, however, rushed to Alien Skin’s defense, saying his street energy, rough voice, and raw style are exactly what set him apart in a crowded music industry.
Once again, Mukulu’s sharp tongue has ignited the old debate: should Ugandan music be judged by tradition and vocal ability, or should it evolve with the streets and the times?
