Uganda’s 2026 presidential race has opened the stage to fresh contenders from little-known political groups, raising debate over whether they can run credible campaigns or are simply aiming to make a mark.

The Common Man’s Party (CMP), Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP), and National Peasants’ Party (NPP) have each unveiled candidates who claim they embody the change citizens have been waiting for.

However, doubts linger about their ability to last the course, given their limited public presence, scarce resources, and uncertain long-term plans.

CMP’s flag bearer, Mubarak Munyagwa, has already made headlines after boosting his personal security following nomination, insisting that his campaign is about restoring power to ordinary Ugandans.
