Lutaaya Faces Backlash Over Alleged Plan to Reclaim Donated Ambulance

Musician-turned-politician Geoffrey Lutaaya has found himself at the center of fresh controversy following reports that he wants an ambulance he donated to voters in Kakuuto Constituency returned after losing the recent parliamentary elections.

Lutaaya was defeated in the Kakuuto County MP race by NRM’s Ismail Lubega. Sources close to him say the loss has left the singer deeply disappointed, with some claiming he feels let down by the very people he sought to serve.

During the campaign season, Lutaaya bought an ambulance valued at more than UGX 200 million and officially handed it over to the community, saying it was meant to improve access to emergency health services in the area. The donation was widely praised at the time.

However, new claims suggest the former MP has now given a one-month deadline for the ambulance to be returned. A source from Kyotera alleges that Lutaaya has already instructed his campaign team to begin the process of recovering the vehicle.

“He believes the voters betrayed him despite his support to the community,” the source said. “He wants the ambulance back within a month.”

The reported move has triggered anger and disappointment among residents of Kakuuto, many of whom argue that the ambulance was given as a public donation, not as a reward tied to election results. Some locals say taking it back would hurt ordinary people who rely on it for emergency care.

Lutaaya lost the election by a margin of over 4,000 votes. Since then, he has rejected the results and accused State Minister Haruna Kasolo of voter intimidation and election malpractice, allegations that have not been independently verified.

The controversy has also revived criticism of Lutaaya’s performance in Parliament. Records show that during his five-year term, he reportedly spoke only once on the floor of Parliament, during the heated debate on the Coffee Bill, which he opposed despite it later being passed into law.
