National Resistance Movement Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja has called on parents to make their children’s education a top priority, saying consistent school attendance and access to learning materials remain essential for improving lives and strengthening communities.
Namayanja delivered the message during a ceremony at Butiikwa Project Primary School in Kiwoko Town Council, Nakaseke District, where teachers, parents and local leaders gathered to celebrate the school’s outstanding performance in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations.
The government school emerged as the district’s top-performing public primary school after more than 90 of its candidates earned Division One, an achievement education leaders described as evidence that strong academic results are possible in public schools despite limited resources.

Addressing parents, Namayanja said children should not be forced to abandon their education because of financial hardships. She encouraged families to do everything possible to keep learners in school and ensure they have the books, uniforms and other scholastic materials needed to succeed.
She said investing in a child’s education creates opportunities that extend beyond individual families, contributing to stronger communities and national development.
Her remarks come as Uganda continues to work toward improving access to quality education while addressing challenges such as poverty, school dropout rates and shortages of learning resources in some parts of the country.
Education advocates have long argued that sustained parental involvement plays a critical role in improving learner performance, particularly in government schools where many children come from low-income households.
The recognition of Butiikwa Project Primary School was welcomed by parents and teachers, who said the school’s results reflect the commitment of learners, educators and families working together toward a common goal.
Officials expressed hope that the school’s success will inspire other public schools in Nakaseke District and across Uganda to strengthen academic performance and encourage more children to complete their education.
