Uganda launches updated national cybersecurity framework to strengthen digital resilience

Uganda has unveiled an updated National Information Security Framework aimed at strengthening the country’s cybersecurity systems as digital services continue to expand across government, businesses and communities.

The updated National Information Security Framework 2026 was launched by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Justine Kasule Lumumba, during an event held Tuesday at Four Points by Sheraton Kampala.

The launch was organized by the National Information Technology Authority Uganda under the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project Government Network, an initiative focused on improving the country’s digital infrastructure and public service delivery.

Officials said the revised framework is intended to help build a secure, resilient and trusted digital ecosystem by providing updated guidance on information security as Uganda increases its reliance on digital technologies.

The framework comes at a time when government agencies, financial institutions, businesses and individuals are becoming more dependent on online platforms for communication, financial transactions and access to public services. That growth has also increased exposure to cyber threats, including data breaches, online fraud and attacks targeting critical infrastructure.

Authorities say strengthening cybersecurity has become essential to protecting sensitive information and maintaining public confidence in digital systems. The updated framework is expected to guide institutions in adopting stronger security practices while supporting Uganda’s broader digital transformation agenda.

The launch also underscores the government’s efforts to ensure that investments in digital infrastructure are matched by policies designed to safeguard information assets and improve resilience against evolving cyber risks. As more Ugandans embrace digital services, officials say building trust in the country’s cybersecurity systems will remain a key priority.
