Before she became one of Uganda’s most recognizable female music stars, Swangz Avenue singer Vinka spent years working quietly behind the scenes, managing another artist’s career rather than building her own. Now, she says that chapter of her life is firmly behind her and one she has no interest in reliving.
Speaking during a recent interview, Vinka said she no longer wants to take on the role of artist manager, describing the job as one that demands heavy emotional investment with little guarantee that the effort will ever be recognized or appreciated.
The comments brought renewed attention to her history as the former manager of singer Irene Ntale, a role she held before stepping out to launch her own successful music career.
Vinka explained that managing an artist involves far more than most people assume from the outside. Drawing on her own experience, she said the position comes with constant pressure, personal sacrifice and emotional strain that often goes unseen by anyone outside the working relationship.
According to the singer, one of the toughest parts of the job is the imbalance that can quietly build between a manager and the artist they represent, where one side pours in effort and commitment that isn’t always matched or acknowledged in return.
Her reflections offered fans a rare look into a period of her life that predates her own rise to fame, a stretch of years spent supporting someone else’s career before she found her own footing as a performer.
Vinka did not name any specific incident that pushed her away from management, framing her decision instead as something she arrived at gradually, shaped by the accumulated weight of a role she says is often underestimated.
For now, the singer appears content to keep her focus on her own artistry, leaving the demands of artist management to others.
