Kinkizi Stewards College celebrated a major milestone on Friday as it held its first graduation ceremony since its establishment in 2024, with more than 87 students receiving qualifications in various academic programs.

The ceremony, held at the college campus in Kihihi Town Council, attracted education leaders, government officials, development partners, parents and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the institution’s rapid growth and achievements.

Great Stewards College was founded in 2024 after its founders separated from Great Lakes College to establish a new higher education institution aimed at expanding access to quality tertiary education in Kanungu District and the surrounding region.

The college has received support from the Diocese of Kinkizi and several development partners, including John Rutherford, whose contributions have helped strengthen the institution during its formative years.

John Rutherford served as the guest of honour during the graduation ceremony, while Kinkizi West Member of Parliament Hon. James Rugi Kaberuka officiated as the chief guest.

Speaking during the event, Kanungu District Education Officer Mr. Shaban Adam congratulated the graduates and commended the founders for their vision and commitment to improving higher education in the district.

He described the graduation of more than 87 students as a significant achievement for an institution that has been operating for only two years. He also encouraged the college leadership to continue investing in academic excellence and institutional development.

Shaban urged the management to pursue further accreditation and expansion so the institution can begin offering degree and eventually master’s programs, saying this would increase access to higher education within Kanungu District and reduce the need for students to travel long distances in search of advanced studies.

College leaders reaffirmed their commitment to providing quality education and expressed appreciation to the Diocese of Kinkizi, development partners, staff, parents and students for their continued support.

The inaugural graduation marks an important milestone for Great Stewards College and reflects the growing demand for higher education opportunities in southwestern Uganda.
