Singer Gloria Bugie says she has not given up on her long-anticipated debut concert, insisting the project has only been pushed back because her venue of choice, Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, is currently unavailable.
Bugie said she had been ready to move forward with preparations before learning that the stadium remains tied up with activities linked to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
“I was told Namboole is still booked for AFCON, so we are still looking for the biggest venue in Kampala,” Bugie said, explaining the setback that has stalled her plans.
The singer said the search is now on for an alternative location large enough to match the scale she originally envisioned for the show, though she made clear that no other venue in the capital carries quite the same weight as Namboole in her plans.
Bugie added that she intends to proceed with the concert as soon as the stadium frees up, describing the delay as a matter of timing rather than a change of heart. According to her, the ambition behind the show has not wavered, only the date.
For an artist working toward a first major solo concert, securing a venue of Namboole’s stature is often seen as a significant milestone, one that can shape both the scale of the event and the statement it makes about an artist’s standing in the industry. Bugie’s insistence on holding out for the stadium suggests she views the venue as central to the vision she has for her debut.
No new date has been announced for the concert, and Bugie did not say how long she expects to wait before Namboole becomes available again.
