Liverpool sack head coach Arne Slot

Liverpool Football Club has parted ways with manager Arne Slot today, Saturday, terminating the Dutchman’s contract just one year after he delivered the club’s 20th league title.

The decision, confirmed by owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG), follows a turbulent second campaign in which the Reds plummeted to a fifth-place finish, concluding the season with 60 points, the club’s lowest total since the 2015-16 season and 25 points adrift of champions Arsenal.

Despite the domestic slide, the club managed to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

“That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying,” FSG said in a statement. “The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves , successful.”

The organization praised the 47-year-old for his professional conduct and tactical acumen during his tenure.

“Our appreciation for everything he has achieved could not be greater, particularly as it was underpinned by a work ethic, a diligence and a level of expertise which further underlined our view that he is a leader in his field,” the statement continued.

“From the moment that we first encountered Arne, it was immediately clear that he is an individual who does not merely accept responsibility, he embraces it.”

As the club looks to navigate a period of transition, sources indicate that leadership has already moved to identify a successor.

Former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has emerged as the primary candidate, with the club reportedly initiating formal discussions with the Spaniard regarding the vacancy.

Slot’s departure marks a swift end to a tenure that began with high expectations following a historic title win in his debut season.
